Hyde Hall Ramp

The University System of New Hampshire solicited architectural services for the assessment, program evaluation, conceptual planning and construction phasing of the proposed renovation (and possible addition to) Hyde Hall, a faculty office and classroom building on the Plymouth state University Campus.

Cowan Goudreau Architects (CGA) was retained to provide architectural services identified in the RFP, and later retained to provide additional services of Code Analysis as well as consulting engineering studies corresponding to existing conditions and proposed improvements for the building.

As part of this study, we reviewed the existing ramp and front entry stairs on the east side of the building.  Both ramp and stairs were non-compliant in several respects relative to building code and the ADA, and in need of an upgrade.  The 2014 masterplan identifies this east side pedestrian circulation route as a featured “greenway” with an adjacent park anticipated.  Accordingly, we recommended that the stairs and ramp be demolished, redesigned, and rebuilt as a new, more user-friendly main entry ramp element.
